If there’s one thing Melissa Rutland loves more than making a sale – it’s hearing about the different and quirky uses her customers have purchased a shipping container for.
The endless possibilities of shipping containers is what intrigued Melissa about working at Royal Wolf.
“I love the unique uses people come up with for shipping containers. There’s an incredible container café in the Fielding area and Royal Wolf’s head office in Auckland is a brilliant piece of architecture,” she says.
Born and bred in “Palmy”, Melissa is all hands-on deck at Royal Wolf’s Palmerston North Office as the Sales and Admin Assistant.
Not only does she manage all administrative duties in Palmerston North, she also helps in a support role for the Napier and New Plymouth offices.
Melissa says despite the challenge of having to learn new skills in the sales area, she likes to think her humble and relaxed attitude helps her do her job well.
“It definitely helps having such a supportive and passionate group of people to work with along with a great bunch of customers and local businesses that we deal with.”
Melissa says the container industry is an exciting one to be working in because there will always be a need for the big steel boxes, be it for storage and transportation or in areas such as construction, farming, events and hospitality.
When Melissa isn’t hiring and selling containers, and covering administration duties for the three regions, she loves nothing more than to relax with her family and friends at home.
She lives with her husband of 15 years on their two-acre lifestyle block in Sanson (just north of Palmerston North), where they have chickens and two border collies; Max and Zack. Melissa has an 18-year-old daughter and a 20-year-old step-son.
A lover of books, and with a fascination for abandoned houses, Melissa also enjoys travelling.
While she did a four-year stint in Auckland, she was drawn back to Palmy, where her extended family live, because “I just love it so much”.
