As Auckland Airport’s infrastructure upgrade continues to gain momentum, containers are helping create seamless journeys for passengers and providing shelter for workers.
When the construction programme restarted in 2022, Royal Wolf worked with lead contractor Icon to design and install 43 container hoardings to provide a covered walkway from the international terminal to the public car parks.
An additional eight containers have been added to create a 40m long walkway providing passengers, airport employees, and construction teams safe passageway between the domestic and international terminal.
Gimme shelter
Additionally, we converted four container hoardings into a bus stop at the temporary parking site where hundreds of workers catch shuttle buses to their work sites each day.
The “bus stop” container, complete with seating and a great view of planes coming and going, creates a safe drop off and pick up point for workers.
With the long-term nature of the Auckland Airport project, the containers provide a practical, semi-permanent solution as well as an aesthetically pleasing one.
